Meanwhile, 40 minutes down I-10 in El Paso, I visited "The Barnyard" in the Segundo Barrio, and admired the graffiti art on the walls:

Our Proposal for the El Paso, which won us a pop-up gallery at Chalk the Block 2014 (Oct 10 - 12):

El Pueblo Viejo vs El Chuco -- Fine Art Print Exhibition

(Tucson vs El Paso print exchanges)

We would like to exhibit fine art prints from both the YayBig Print Exchange (organized in Tucson), and the Horned Toad Print Exchange (organized in El Paso) -- showing works from about 50 different artists total. While all the prints are 8 x 10 inches, each will take a bit more wall space after framing. All the etchings, silkscreens and wood block prints were submitted in 2014.

At Chalk the Block last year (2013), we showcased printmakers from across the Southwest at the YayBig Southwest pop-up gallery, and then took the show to Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson. That momentum lead to YayBig sponsoring their own print exchange, modeled after the Horned Toad Print Exchange in El Paso. Naturally the sister exchanges are now begging to be shown together, in the same space. Thus this proposal is not just a follow-up of last year's exhibition -- it’s a different twist on promoting regional printmakers, and nudging them from 2 sides to raise the bar.

(Each artist sent an edition of 15 prints to YayBig. In return they get prints by 13 different artists back. YayBig keeps 2 prints for exhibitions. That is an example of how a print exchange works)

On Saturday, June 7th, we had a nice, steady opening of the YayBig Southwest Print Collection in two locations -- Yay Big Gallery, and the Academy of Wonderment (in the Arches building just down Toole Street) in downtown Tucson.

Titus Castanza lent us his bread truck, which we hung prints on, to illustrate the importance of a mobile art venue.  Reyna Marshall decorated the truck, which we christened "Planet Hamster" (after Planet Rabbit).

Next door in George Strasburger's studio, Titus Castanza painted George Strausberger's portrait, and George painted Titus' portrait, and they showed off their masterpieces on our opening night:

I produced three prints especially for the show; all the editions were done at the Gloo Factory.  The one below was taken from an Instagram image by John Paul Gutierrez:

Now Metalphysic is converting this print into a 3D digital file, to make a sculpture (possibly bronze):

We also bought 5 pieces by Southwestern printmakers on Etsy to put in this show.  There were a lot of good prints on Etsy, which inspires me to have a show entirely of Etsy prints worldwide.

Metalphysic foundry constructed a 3D model from John Paul Gutierrez's print, using Zbrush, and sent it out to Shapeways to get it 3D printed.  We showed that 3D print at the Tucson Sculpture Festival 2015.
